For Those About to Sew (We Salute You)
Boo Davis has tapped into a heretofore untapped market: heavy metal quilts. The Seattle artist has begun crafting fist-pumping, head-banging blankets — the likes of which we’ve never quite seen before. Also, her company name is seriously kickass: Quiltsÿrche — which isn’t just a play on the name of the nerdiest mainstream metal band of the 1980s, but also a nod to her hometown, since, well, Queensrÿche are from the Jet City as well.
The blankets are rad, but they’ll cost you. A queen size quilt will run you $1700, though rest assured each one will be lovingly hand-crafted and completely unique. And place your orders now, since it cam take up to 5 months to get a custom design. Davis has also been incorporating old band T-shirts into her quilts, a great alternative to preserving those worn out tees you just can’t part with.
Oh, and to anyone who’s friends with that Swedish couple who made news when the government refused to let them name their daughter Metallica, this would be a PERFECT gift. (They were eventually allowed to use the name by the way.)
