This Site Is A’ight: GigPosters.com
GigPosters.com is a great place to get lost for a while. It’s essentially a social networking site built around show posters and flyers from your favorite bands. From the music video to the album cover, images and music have always made great bedfellows, and this site proves it, as brightly-colored silk-screened posters sit beside handmade DIY photocopied flyers in a glorious mishmash of art-music nirvana.
The site was created by Canadian musician Clayton Hayes and his girlfriend, artist Kendra Jones, who have seen the site grow organically since its inception in 2000. You can search the site’s database of 66,000+ posters by band, designer or venue, and then leave a comment when you find one you like (or don’t). There’s even a classified section where users can purchase some of the posters featured on the site. And the site is an excellent time capsule for both bands and venues alike.
Here’s a sampling of some of the fine work we found on the site, but this only the tip of the iceberg. Go check out the site yourself and get lost for a while. And click the thumbnails below for a full size image.
