This Site Is A’ight: FlickSkinny.com

Welcome to the inaugral edition of a new feature called This Site Is A’ight. The idea is simple: Highlight some of our favorite places on the web by 1) gushing about them 2) giving them an 11 question interview. Usually we’re too embarrassed to come clean about the seedy places we hang out on the web, but for the benefit of you, o loyal YuppiePunk readers, we’re letting the skeletons out of our bookmarks folder.

FlickSkinny.com is a great site that combines two things we love dearly: saurkraut and David Hasselhoff film and comics. It was created by two guys from Athens, Georgia, both of whom are currently employed at a video store called Vision Video. One of them’s the manager (Jeremy), the other ain’t (Clint), but they both love movies. Out of this shared love of film came the creation of their comics — which really aren’t comics as much as they are barbed and witty deconstructions of whatever’s playing at the local googleplex this weekend. In fact, there are way more words in their comics than there are pictures. But that’s part of the charm. Really, you’ll just have to read a few to get the idea. A couple of their favorites are highlighted below. And when you’re done with the interview, head on over to their site and poke around — you’ll like it. There’s much more to their site than just the comics.

1. What’s the worst film of 2005 so far?
Jeremy: “Cursed”.
Clint: “The Pacifier,” without a doubt.

2. Will the “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” remake be any good?
Jeremy: Tim Burton, Johnny Depp, Danny Elfman… without Gene Wilder they’re all useless.
Clint: I was so excited about the remake that I never bothered to watch the first one.

3. What is your ultimate double feature?
Jeremy: I saw “Aliens,” “Raising Arizona,” and “The Great Mouse Detective” in the same afternoon. That was pretty cool.
Clint: Hmm…”Petey Wheatstraw, the Devil’s Son-in-Law” and “The Green Berets”

4. Do you have a favorite cartoon you’ve done?
Jeremy:Dreamcatcher” or “The Country Bears
Clint:Alexanderand “Joyride

5. Any chance there will be a Flick Skinny “the book” anytime soon?
It’s done, find us a publisher.

6. Are you fond of Thin Lizzy?
No, she’s a bitch.

7. What are your daily must-reads?
Jeremy: Instapundit.
Clint: Huffington blog.

8. Who are your favorite artists/cartoonists?
Jeremy: Berkely Breathed, Clint, Shigeru Miyamoto.
Clint: Aww, thanks. For me, Charles Schulz, Chris Ware, Ivan Brunetti, and my inner fanboy LOVES Alex Ross. Oh, and Jeremy, of course, whose insights leave me speechless.

9. Who’s the best Bond?
Jeremy: Jude Law?
Clint: Connery, of course. But I am looking forward to Jude’s inevitable turn. (Or maybe when Ewan MacGregor shaves the ‘Obi-Wan’ off…)
(ed’s note: for our analysis, go here)

10. Michael Curtiz, Michael Mann or Michael Bay?
Jeremy: Mann and Curtiz only made 3 or 4 good movies, but Mann made “Band of the Hand,” so…
Clint: Mann is amazing, and all… but Curtiz made “Robin Hood” even though he could barely speak English. As for Bay, he makes me want to peel my eyeballs.

11. Are Lindsay Lohan and Nicole Richie too skinny?
Jeremy: I’d sit through a “Lovebug” movie for Lindsay. But Nicole… she’s just horrifying.
Clint: Who?
