A (Not So) Complete History of Music Videos Featuring Naked Band Members

The video for “Lessons Learned” by indie rock duo Matt and Kim is simple and alluring. It’s not high concept, just Matt and Kim stripping naked while walking through Times Square in slow motion. The ending is unexpected, but also totally works given the surrealistic feel of the rest of the video. And even more exciting than seeing the band sans clothes is watching the faces of the New Yorkers and tourists they pass. It’s hard to believe nobody had thought of this idea before, and it’s kind of brilliant in its simplicity and execution. The clip was directed by Taylor Cohen and Otto Arsenault, who told passersby they were shooting a mayonnaise commercial, figuring the least-sexy thing they could come up with would convince people not to hang around while they shot. This isn’t the first time a band has stripped naked for their video of course. Below is a look at the some of the videos we could come up with, but surely there are more. Leave any we forgot in the comments.

MATT and KIM – “LESSONS LEARNED”

BLINK-182 – “WHAT’S MY AGE AGAIN?”
It’s probably better that the trio stirpped naked for this track and not “All the Small Things,” which may have had different connotations.

ALANIS MORISSETTE – “THANK U”
No, thank you!
>

BRITNEY SPEARS – “WOMANIZER”
It’s not like most of the world hadn’t already seen Britney’s body, iIt’s just that this way she could control the final images.

METHODS OF MAYHEM – “GET NAKED”
Thankfully, Fred Durst is not one of the folks who gets naked in this video.

NO DOUBT – “HEY BABY”

Sorry pervs, it’s not Gwen Stefani who takes off her undies and does gymnastics, it’s drummer Adrian Young.

t.A.T.u – “WHITE ROBE”

Concept: One member of the Russian duo undresses. The other showers. Win.

D’ANGELO – “HOW DOES IT FEEL?”
Um, wow?
