Reunions, Karate, Architecture (But Not in That Order)

Jeff Gillette’s paintings are like a secret glimpse into the future, where relics of evil corporations glimmer like still-living cockroaches in a debris-strewn post-Apocalyptic landscape.

We’re completely obsessed with “Dragon’s Den” a British program, airing now on BBC America, in which entrepreneurs pitch ideas to investors in hopes of securing financing. It’s alluringly simple and utterly addictive. The format is a hit not just in Britain, but Japan, Australia and elsewhere, and Mark Burnett is developing an American version called “The Shark Tank.” See a pitch:

James Jean uses a muted palette to draw images from dreams you just won’t want to wake from. He has a new book out called “XOXO,” which reproduces 30 of his finest works as postcards.

Architecture School” on Sundance is more documentary than reality show. It follows Tulane University architecture students as they design and build a low income home in New Orleans’ Ninth Ward, a section of the city that was particularly ravaged by Hurricane Katrina. The series falls a bit short because it doesn’t spend enough time on developing its characters, but eventually succeeds because the design and building process is interesting.

Metal for Monsters is jewelry with a purpose.

Wax on, wax off. We love the “Karate Kid.” A lot. But not as much as , who put together an obsessive documentary on the film’s impact. We only wish he’d turned up the kick and laid off the shtick.

Part 6 of a an ongoing TKO Records series on their bands. This volume: The Stitches.

VIMBY – Punk Off Vol.6

Screeching Weasel reunion makes my brain hurt.

Principal’s Office” on TruTV is dumb but enjoyable reality TV that eavesdrops on high school principals as they deal with misbehaving teens. One school even has corporal punishment (read: they paddle asses).

Z Rock“: Like “Curb Your Enthusiasm” with guitars.
