Sweet Judy Blue Eyes
We’ve long been a fan of actress Judy Greer, but we’re glad the folks in sitcom-land finally came around and gave her a starring vehicle — ABC’s “Miss Guided.” Though Greer has spent most of her career as “the best friend,” she’s finally come into her own as a headliner. You may remember Greer as Kitty Sanchez, the always-flashing-her-boobs secretary on “Arrested Development,” or perhaps as the waitress who actually flashes her boobs (NSFW) to Nic Cage in “Adaptation.” She was also terrific in last year’s under-seen “The TV Set,” a biting indie comedy about getting a sitcom on the air.
Though “Miss Guided” isn’t great, Greer’s charm and comedic talents are reason enough to tune in. She plays Becky Freely, a once-dorky high school student who comes back to her alma mater to work as its guidance counselor. The series also features a brunette Brooke Burns as well as SNL alum Chris Parnell who plays the school’s assistant vice principal. Though he’s predictably one-dimensional, he gets some of the show’s best lines. We never even knew we liked Chris Parnell until he left SNL. Oh and did we mention Ashton Kutcher serves as exec producer? Dude, where’s my career? Behind the scenes apparently, as his production company Katalyst Films has several other shows in production including “Beauty and the Geek” on the CW and “Pop Fiction” on E!, which is essentially “Punk’d” for the paparazzi. But we digress…
“Miss Guided” airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. on ABC.
