Fruit of the Viner
Jonathan Weiner, a.k.a. Viner, is a painter from Brooklyn, New York who paints moody canvases that combine icy cold blues and greys with warmer browns and yellows. His paintings capture a world plagued by paranoia, where men cower in the presence of women, and where everyone grapples with isolation and alienation. Viner’s world is a dreary dream-like place where long-beaked birds peck at your weaknesses, and allegory and symbolism slither through your toes. This is the big city, and this is the inside of Viner’s head, or at least above it, eavesdropping on his life and his fears. These are paintings that are at once lonely, yet very much alive.
These explore man’s relationship to woman:
“Suspicious Package”
“Pollination”
“Flower Offering”
“Rings”
“Courteous Intruder”
These deal with paranoia, isolation and alienation:
“Dark Descends”
“Moment of Dischord”
“Conspirator”
“Go Forth”
And these feature the everpresent long-beaked birds:
“Locate Origin”
“Fight or Flight”
“Puncture Wound”
“Trinket”
