Welcome to podcast number six. This edition’s theme? Trios. Why? Why not! As always, the playlist was together by the fine fellows at Aperture Music, who, for this latest edition, are offering up a prize pack of soundtracks to the first person who can correctly identify all eight songs in this here mashup. The first person to will receive copies of the soundtracks to “Jackass Number Two” and “,” both of which were put together by Aperture.
Update: We have a winner!
But enough of our yappin’, let’s get on with the podcast. The songs will be available ala carte below — until they expire — or better yet, , which never expire, and which will ensure you get new editions as soon as we post ‘em.
Trio – “Da Da Da”
Who better to start off a podcast featuring trios than the trio known as Trio? Catchy? Yep. Simple? Yep. German? Da.
Wolfmother – “Love Train”
Some call this Aussie trio derivative. Others call them rock gods. We call them track number two.
Peter Bjorn and John – “Failing And Passing“
This Swedish pop group doesn’t have commas in their name which sometimes gets them mistaken for a duo rather than a trio. This is the second song on their first album. Two plus one equals three.
The Jam – “I Need You (For Someone)”
This straight ahead love song penned by Paul Weller is the template for the million pop punk blasts written since.
FannyPack – “Smack It Up”
Three ethnically diverse chicks from Miami are the mouthpiece for a pair of producers.
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – “Lien On My Dreams”
From their fourth album by this four-named band is this four-worded track.
Joel Plaskett – “Television Set”
Aside from appearing on Plaskett’s second LP, this song was also used for the end credits to this year’s quirky indie flick “The TV Set,” a behind-the-scenes look at the business of getting a pilot on the air.
Guster – “C’mon”
Technically Guster aren’t trio anymore since the band’s touring multi-instrumentalist become a full-on member before recording the album this song appears on, but still…
Fun Boy Three – “Our Lips Are Sealed”
Named by Rolling Stone as one of the 100 Greatest Pop Songs of all-time, this song hit number 7 on the British singles chart, and was co-written by Jane Weidlin of the Go-Gos (who also had a hit with it) and Terry Hall, an ex-member of the Specials.
Supergrass-”Cheapskate”
Way before he was on “Entourage” and she was on “Heroes,” Adrian Grenier and Ali Larter had a hot makeout scene in the teen comedy “Drive Me Crazy,” a scene that Aperture Music placed this song in.
Yeah Yeah Yeah’s – “Maps (Live)”
The live acoustic version of this song, one of the more tuneful tracks from the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s debut album, takes on new dimensions in its stripped-back form
Do these songs sound good? :
